Corneal Refractive Therapy, or CRT, is a unique process that uses a special rigid gas permeable contact lens designed to work while you sleep , temporarily correcting myopia (nearsightedness) by gently reshaping the cornea. You may then be able to go throughout the day without any lenses. But not everyone can wear CRT lenses. CRT lenses are intended for individuals with low to moderate myopia and moderate astigmatism.

Most patients have rapid improvement in the first few days of treatment and achieve almost optimum vision in 10 to 14 days. Of course, CRT is not for everyone. A small percentage of patients will still need additional correction.

Corneal Refractive Therapy is temporary. If you stop wearing the lenses regularly while you sleep your vision can and will return to its original state in as little as 72 hours. If you feel like you are having a problem with your vision or contact lenses, immediately remove your lenses and call our office.

It is important to understand that for a while after you have started CRT, your old glasses may no longer be the appropriate prescription. The doctor will discuss what your options are for visual correction during that period of time.

It is essential that you discuss any issues you may have about your eye health or contact lens wear with our professional staff. If you need any further information about Corneal Refractive Therapy, please contact our office.
